I’ve been walking more and more since I bought a walking pad for my desk setup.

I’ve been Japanese Walking using an interval timer while I walk around my yard, but it’s been impossible to do while working at my desk. I needed a method that would allow me to mindlessly walk at alternating speeds, with the speed changes happening automatically, so I can concentrate on work.

My walking pad came with both a remote and an iOS app that allows me to control it, but neither of them has support for intervals.

I did some research and found that apparently many walking pads, (including mine, the UREVO CyberPad) use a standard Bluetooth protocol called FTMS!

So I wrote an iOS app that uses that protocol to speed up and slow down my walking pad automatically. I just step on, connect to the pad, start the app and go. It manages the rest. I have no plans to release the app because I don’t want to get sued by someone for a bug that makes it speed up unexpectedly and causes them to fall or something. I just wanted to publicly say that it’s possible.

There’s an open source project: github.com/ColasNaha… that does this too, but I couldn’t get it to work.

John Ternus has been rumored to be Tim Cook’s replacement at Apple for awhile now. Tim Cook can’t leave Apple fast enough in my opinion.

As for Ternus, I didn’t really have an opinion about the guy until tonight. I was watching the 50th anniversary Apple Event from the Computer History Museum just now and I noticed him sitting there in the front row next to Hair Force One. That’s a good sign, I think.

It turns out that the best way to get Google to approve something is to get a company that pays Google a lot of money to contact them on your behalf. It was like my application went into a black hole for 2 weeks until they got involved… then Google approved everything in a day. Nice.

I do not recommend trying to rip into a foil pack of Sudafed with your mouth, especially while you’re in a hurry to leave the house for a dental appointment (where you have to open your mouth wide basically the entire time). You just might slash your lip from top to bottom on the foil and start bleeding everywhere. Thank goodness for styptic pencils.
